ST. PAUL’S CHURCH, SUNSHINE

CLIENT: McCARTHY, COLLINGS & PURTELL

The refurbishment of this church included an entry portico framed on the four sides by precast concrete arches and a soaring glass framed roof to the narthex.

Each end of the church was extended and the concrete arch motif repeated.

An iconic curved concrete bell tower was built in the garden to the front of the church.

PRIVATE RESIDENCE, HAWTHORN

Gillon Consulting Group provided structural engineering services for the project.

The structure of this residence comprised of a flat plate concrete slab to the first floor supporting an external shell of scalloped pre-cast panels.

The concrete slab was supported on steel RHS window mullions located at 1500mm centres within the fully glazed external walls to create the illusion of a concrete box floating on a glass shell.

NARRE WARREN AGED CARE FACILITY

CLIENT: VISIONBUILT SOLUTIONS PTY LTD

Gillon Consulting Group were appointed as structural and civil engineers to develop the project from planning through design to construction.

The Aged Care Facility is a two storey facility consisting of four residential wings radiating from a central administration, recreation and amenities hub. Underground storage tanks were provided to harvest stormwater for reuse for toilets and landscape irrigation.

The site was raised by placing up to two metres of fill to keep the floors above the nominated flood level. As a result, the lightweight two storey structure was built on a suspended slab-on-ground supported on 2.5m deep bored concrete piers.

PORT MELBOURNE YACHT CLUB

CLIENT: KESWICK HOWDEN, ARCHITECT

Following a fire which razed the original Club-house, a plan was put into action to develop new premises. The Club through the Architect Keswick Howden appointed Gillon Consulting Group to provide structural engineering services for the design of the new building.

The building consisted of a sub-structure of concrete piles, pre-cast concrete beams and slabs with insitu pile caps and tie beams, all constructed over water. The superstructure was a light steel frame structure using dry wall where possible and featuring the extensive use of glazing.

QUARRY, TOWNSVILLE, QUEENSLAND

Gillon Consulting Group were engaged to provide structural engineering services for the above project. Design and documentation was prepared for the following items:

Primary Hopper walls and base, Equipment Building, foundations for jaw and gyratory cone crushers, precast concrete bunker walls, screen support structures and tunnels under stockpile and main bunkers.

ETHERIDGE FORD SHOWROOM & WORKSHOP, MAROONDAH HIGHWAY, RINGWOOD

Gillon Consulting Group provided civil and structural engineering services to Pritchard Builders for the above Design and Construct Project.

The project involved the construction of a showroom, workshop, car storage and car display areas. The design and construction was complicated due to poor ground conditions and a considerable fall over the site which required level changes between the various areas of the building.

BRIDGEWATER AGED CARE FACILITY, ROXBURGH PARK

Gillon Consulting Group provided structural and civil engineering services for this Aged Care Facility in Roxburgh Park.

The accommodation wings had a high level of prefabrication. Each bedroom consisted of a precast concrete box unit which supported a gangnail truss roof system.

The use of precast concrete box units delivered both time and cost savings to the project.

PENINSULA PRIVATE HOSPITAL, FRANKSTON

CLIENT: HALLMARK PROPERTIES PTY LTD

Gillon Consulting Group provided structural and civil engineering services for the relocation of the Peninsula Private Hospital to a new 120 bed hospital in McClelland Drive, Frankston.

The structure is principally single level with part two storey and three storey sections designed to suit the existing ground levels.

To maximise construction speed and minimise costs, suspended slabs were constructed using condeck formwork and mesh reinforcement and retaining walls were concrete panels precast on site. The roof structure was a mix of steel purlins and prefabricated timber trusses on steel support framework.

The key features of the project were four operating theatres, day procedure unit, high dependency unit, radiology facilities and 15-20 consulting suites.

Gillon Consulting Group provided structural and civil engineering services to this project.

The townhouses utilised precast concrete dividing walls with lightweight timber and steel infill floors.

The use of aerated concrete panels on front and rear walls complimented the variety of finishes to each residence.

NURSING HOME, HOSTEL, SUNSHINE

The 80 bed Hostel/Nursing Home was developed in two stages and was designed to cater for the needs of the disadvantaged in the western suburbs. The design was based on a residential style to blend into the character of the neighbourhood whilst meeting the Authorities requirements.

FRANKSTON HOSPITAL EXTENSION

Gillon Consulting Group provided structural engineering consulting services for design and documentation of the above project.

The concrete framed building was built with a concrete roof allow for an additional floor to be constructed in the future. The structure comprised a reinforced concrete frame and infill brickwork.

CHURCH, OFFICES AND GYMNASIUM, BERWICK

CLIENT: BERWICK REGIONAL CHURCH OF CHRIST

The Church required a new Chapel, administration offices and a gymnasium. Ken Murie Design produced a landmark building which is the largest mud brick building in Australia. Gillon Consulting Group provided structural and civil engineering services for the project.

The centre of the building has a large glazed barrel vault ceiling which provides a magnificent entry into the Chapel seating. The perimeter walls of the building are constructed from mud brick and protected with a classical style concave verandah for the full perimeter. The structure comprises a steel frame with a significant clear span allowing a large open space within the principal assembly areas.

ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE CHURCH, HOPPERS CROSSING

Gillon Consulting Group were appointed consulting structural and civil engineers for this new church.

The church structure comprised of steel portal frames supported on an exposed ridge beam to allow for the large open space of the church interior.

A feature of the church interior is the curved suspended panel over the altar. A prominent reinforced concrete bell tower at the church entrance provided additional structural stability to the building and allowed wall bracing to be minimised and window area maximised.

AQUINAS CHAPEL, RINGWOOD

The chapel for Aquinas Catholic Secondary College was part of an upgrade that included a new Science Wing and Administration Building. The building was elevated on a 2.0m high engineered fill podium and designed around an existing tree that was required by the parish to be retained.
